Apt-get is the command-line tool for handling packages, and may be considered the user's 'back-end' to other tools using the APT library. Apt-get install is followed by one or more packages desired for installation or upgrading. [email protected]:/var/tmp# aptitude install glibc-2.13-1 No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed. 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 17 not upgraded. Apt-get is the command-line tool for handling packages, and may be considered the user's 'back-end' to other tools using the APT library. Several 'front-end' interfaces exist, such as synaptic and aptitude.
I want to install glibc-devel package in Ubuntu 12.04. I am VM Ware work station in my project and this package is one of the dependency to build project image. I tried to find information on google about this package but didnt find any staisfactory answer.
Is this package not supported in Ubuntu 12.04? If not then what is the alternative package for it.
Any help on this will be useful.
More information about apt-get install. Advanced Package Tool, or APT, is a free software user interface that works with core libraries to handle the installation and removal of software on Debian, Ubuntu and other Linux distributions. (Off hand i think the packge is zlib1g, use apt-cache --name-only search zlib or aptitude search zlib to find the one that closely matches it and run that apt-get command) This fixed my Ubuntu after I wasted my time and reinstalled my system and tried to install zlib again. If you get some dependency errors while./configure, make and make install, apt-cache search the needed packages and install them by hand. So, if you want to install GLib 2.36.3 on your system, you have to compile it from sources.

If you just need the libc header files, install libc6-dev .
If you prefer to install on the command-line, you can use:
This is worth mentioning, as if you're using a compiler other than the version of GCC as provided by build-essential / gcc-defaults , you may want to just install the
libc6-dev
package.Charles proxy 3.10.1. Charles is a web proxy (HTTP Proxy / HTTP Monitor) that runs on your own computer. Nov 02, 2018 Abid Durrani Charles appeared to be a great debugging tool to enjoy unlimited benefits. Download Charles. The latest version of Charles is 4.2.7. Read the Release Notes. Paid Upgrade for Charles 3 to Charles 4. Charles 4 was a major update to Charles 3, and it is a paid upgrade. Charles is an HTTP proxy / HTTP monitor / Reverse Proxy that enables a developer to view all of the HTTP and SSL / HTTPS traffic between their machine and the Internet. This includes requests, responses and the HTTP headers (which contain the cookies and caching information).
(Installing
build-essential
will work because it will cause libc6-dev
to be installed. libc6-dev
is what actually provides the header files that enable you to link against GNU libc.)Community♦
